Ok, it sounds more dramatic than it really was, but this command was screamed repeatedly by our guide when we went for a wild water rafting trip last weekend close to Chattanooga about 3 hours from Nashville. It was the first time for me rafting, so I didn’t really know what to expect. It all started out by the guide explaining the safety rules…while I wasn’t all that nervous before she started, now I was. You could fall out of the boat and get in a foot trap and drown, get hit by your enthusiastic neighbor with the paddle and maybe loose an eye etc. –mmmhhh! Well, it was too late to back out now, so what the hell!! We all got equipped with helmets, lifejackets and a paddle and then –funny looking as we were-  got squeezed into a undersized school bus, which made us feel as if we were going on summer camp. However, once we were at the river and took the first strokes, I immediately started to love it. Although the water wasn’t exactly warm we had a lot of fun, spinning around and joggling with the waves. I even went swimming voluntarily. But, as usual, the weekend passed sooner than I had hoped and there it was: my first real week at the new job. How would it be? Would I feel comfortable with what I know? What do they expect of me? All these questions ran through my mind as I walked into the building on campus. On hindsight I shouldn’t have worried, because everyone was really nice and I had a good start with several meetings in which I was even able to contribute something. On to the next adventure!!
