Get involved, join the Student Panel!

The Student Project Team (SPT) works for Maastricht University to make the university more student-oriented. Maastricht University consults the SPT on many different projects. The SPT develops these projects with the aim of providing the university with the student perspective. Some of the projects that we are currently working on are: developing a more student friendly environment at the Tapijnkazerne, improving the Student Portal, making Maastricht University more sustainable and organising workshops for the Skills Academy.

We are looking for students with an opinion! The SPT works with a Student Panel of many students on almost all of its projects. This year we are looking for many new panel members who want to give their opinion to make changes at Maastricht University! Are you interested? Apply now!

As a panel member you are asked to attend panel sessions in which you can give your opinion on our projects. As a reward we offer free drinks with food at the panel sessions.  Additionally, being a panel member can give a huge boost to your CV: if you attend enough sessions, Maastricht University will reward you with an official certificate in which it acknowledges your efforts for the university. Green Office

Symposium: Education of Sustainable Development Competences at Maastricht University- Forms, Assessment and Management

Are the competences taught in Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) sufficiently preparing students for the future? Academic staff and students in universities around the world are starting to question whether the skills students learn in their courses and programmes will help them solve the complex problems of the future. How future professionals deal with such pervasive, high stake problems like global poverty, energy shortages, social immobility, technological innovation and disruption, and not least the uncertainties of climate change, will largely be determined by their education experience.

The Green Office, in collaboration with ICIS and EDLAB, will be holding a symposium to discuss this important issue. More specifically, we will be looking at the question: How can competences be implemented within the Maastricht University community to make education for sustainable development more embedded in educational curricula? This symposium will be held on June 28th, in the EDLAB building (Tapijn, building X), room 1.009 from 15:00-17:45.

Sustainable development is an inter and trans-disciplinary endeavour; that is, it must involve the active collaboration of diverse disciplines and departments as well as the scaling and implementation of knowledge beyond the walls of the university. As such, the focus of this symposium is broad in scope and we value the participation of students and staff members from all different backgrounds. We will not only look at sustainability competences, but also at global citizenship competences commensurate with the 21st century task environment that students aspire to excel in: social responsibility, global competence, and engagement. Participants are highly encouraged to discuss additional competences they find relevant to the education for sustainable development.

The Symposium will be held in a workshop setting, giving participants the opportunity to discuss and brainstorm with colleagues and focus on the issues that are of greatest relevance to them. Three themes will be discussed: the forms that the education of competences could take (e.g. electives, minors), the assessment of education of competences and the management of the education of competences. In addition to the workshops, we will have a keynote speech, along with two presentations all covering different aspects of competences in education for sustainable development. If you are interested, or have any questions, please send an email to .
