MAASTRICHT. The American Dream was their point of departure: what is it in fact, why does everyone want it? The students from drama association Alles is Drama subsequently improvised and elaborated on the theme. This resulted in a mix of made-up scenes and a new interpretation of existing monologues and pieces of music: Day/Dream. The show, directed by Anneleen Cnudde, is an English production and can be seen on 3, 4, and 5 December in Kumulus West.
The play is set in a production company that creates advertisements and soaps, and is about trying to be successful. About setting aims for yourself and about letting nothing stand in your way to achieve those aims, about the struggle with mistakes made, and the question why everybody wants to be famous. “We play with American clichés, such as over-the-top advertisements and bad films,” says Nils Hanssen, production and PR manager. “It was quite different to working with an existing play. We started with absolutely nothing. We had to combine scenes that had nothing to do with each other into a cohesive play. That was difficult; we had to tinker quite a bit. We only knew last week exactly what it would look like from start to finish. So it was very exciting, but we are proud of it.”
