Where to find the cheapest beer, is not something you normally need to tell students. But do they also know the local breweries or how the latest special beer tastes? That is where Untappd comes in. This Facebook-type of app for beer lovers shows you where your friends had their last beer, provides you with the option of posting photographs, to check into pubs and write reviews. There are also badges (a picture placed alongside your profile) to be earned, for those who care for that sort of thing. There are badges for discovering a new flavour or regularly checking into your local pub. You can keep a wish list of the beers you still want to taste.

Untappd is not just a social app; it also provides information. Using the discover function, you can learn about pubs and breweries in your neighbourhood. You also receive basic information on various beers, such as their alcohol percentage. Those who would like to look beyond Maastricht, can set the app to ‘global’ and see what worldwide beer fans are doing.
