MAASTRICHT. The Faculty of Psychology is going to introduce evening tutorial groups on a voluntary basis. From the next academic year, students who register for a block may indicate a preference for morning, afternoon or evening sessions. If there are enough students to fill a group (12-14), the faculty will find a tutor. Other faculties, such as Law and Economics, already introduced evening classes a while ago.
The idea arose because of the large number of bachelor’s students in the first year and the expected numbers next year. The present plans do not solve the resulting problem of insufficient space. Enthusiasm for evening groups is too low, as a survey showed. Of all students, 12.2 per cent wants to do such a block once or twice, of the staff members this applies to 30.7 per cent. Both the faculty board and the council feel it is important to keep participation in evening groups on a voluntary basis. Another solution will need to be found for the lack of space.
