MAASTRICHT. The Eiffel building on the Boschstraat is undergoing a metamorphosis. A large section of the striking old factory buildings will be occupied as of September by The Student Hotel. During yesterday’s kick-off, it was described as a “landing spot” where students will be able to stay for up to twelve months. The Student Hotel will rent out 378 rooms, of which no more than 98 on average can be rented to tourists as hotel rooms per year. The hotel will not only be open to students: “Everyone is welcome.” A sky bar on the roof will provide a view of the inner city. The style will be “not perfectly finished”, says architect Oliver Graeven, from the firm also responsible for the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam; he plans to leave the monument “rough and rugged”.
