MAASTRICHT. Swooshing down a slide in the Bonnefanten Museum, lip-syncing to Elvis, or dancing to night-time sounds of nature. All of these are possible during the Maastricht Museum Night on Friday 7 April. Thirteen art institutions will open their doors for the evening. Visitors can go to the Muziekgieterij after 1 o'clock for the after-party.
“It is a chance to get to know Maastricht better, to discover all the things you can do here. And to show that museums don't need to be boring quiet places,” says Luc Bartholomee of Museum Night. Many museums chose their own theme. In Centre Céramique, for example, it is all about Elvis – from having a selfie with The King himself to performances by fan Bart Chabot – and the Bonnefanten Museum has chosen to turn the museum into a playground. “There is an arcade, where you can grab art with a gripper and Navid Nuur has made a work of art that you can shoot at.”
There will be free shuttle buses between the various locations all evening. “Don't forget the smaller institutes. Museum Night is like going on a treasure hunt. Beside the Tourist Office, for example, there is a printing museum; wonderful but hardly anyone knows about it.”
