MAASTRICHT. Mozzarella, salami and pesto – this is what’s on the special Maastricht Science Programme sandwich (notice the similar abbreviation) for sale at Bread&More, a sandwich shop close to the MSP building at the Kapoenstraat. Customers pay the normal price of 4 euros for the sandwich; the MSP charity committee has arranged that for every one sold the shop will donate thirty cents to Shangilia Deutschland. This foundation supports a school focusing on the performing arts in Kenya. “Every semester we and the UCM charity committee, which we work closely with, choose a new charity”, says Caroline Stadler, who was co-chair of the MSP charity committee until last week. “We organize regular activities, like waffle sales every Tuesday and pub quiz nights, but we also like to come up with new ones like this. It was actually an idea of one of our professors. The shop is so close by, it made sense to ask them. Every week we collect the money, usually between 4 and 10 euros. We’re pleased with that.”
The sandwich will be available until the end of the semester. Next term the initiative might be continued with a vegetarian version: mozzarella, salad and pesto.
