Dope again the big winner in university elections

MAASTRICHT. As was the case in the past three years, Dope came out of the university elections - this year only for students and service councils - as the big winner. The party lost a seat, but with a total of 22 seats in the faculty councils and the University Council, it is the largest.

The second party in this election, Novum, obtained ten seats, a loss of four.
The turnout rates were surprising. The Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), with a turnout of more than 30 per cent, is the only faculty where more people voted than last year; a rise of more than 8 per cent compared to 2017. The lowest turnout rate and the greatest decline of 2018 can be found at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS): from about 35 to 20 per cent. This is in stark contrast with the turnout for the Employees' Council at Facility Services (FS): almost 78 per cent. This could be related to the current commotion within FS.

Dope is dominant with six seats at FHML, five at the Faculty of Science & Engineering (FSE), four at the Faculty of Business and Economics and five in the University Council. At the Faculty of Law, JFV Ouranos was the largest with five (of the six) seats and at the FASoS, Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN), Novum was the winner, although there was no voting. Where in previous years at least ten students stood as candidates, this year there were only three, so two seats will remain empty.
