Enjoying the games and the international atmosphere

Inkom 2018

“Relaxed” is how Maxim Scholma (17) from Alphen aan de Rijn describes his Inkom up until now. The biomedical sciences student particularly enjoyed the Ozon Festival on Tuesday. “I tried out all those games they had, I especially liked the one where you got a bungee jump cord around your waist and had to pull as hard as possible.”

Scholma chose Maastricht because of its international character. “It is the only university in the Netherlands that offers my study programme in English. I followed a bilingual track in high school and thought it would be a shame to let my English slide. Would I like to work abroad? It’s too early to say, but I definitely want to leave the possibility open.”

Finding a room was a necessity for him, as Alphen aan de Rijn is 2.5 hours by train from Maastricht. “At first it was difficult – I responded to a lot of ads, but got almost no replies. Luckily, I already knew some people here. A room opened up in their house – it’s close to my faculty and I don’t mind sharing facilities, I really like it so far.”
