Kaleido looking for accommodation again

Kaleido looking for accommodation again

MAASTRICHT. International student club Kaleido won't be moving to Kleine Gracht 41 after all. Before the summer, there were rumours that this would be their new ‘living room’ from which a “community could be built”. That is what Thomas Schäfer, project leader for Maastricht University said back then. Now it appears that the investment costs are too high. So, the club is again searching for a “short- and long-term solution”.

Kaleido left the Timmerfabriek, while four years ago, that location was seen as a suitable meeting place for international students. The city council and the UM even signed a declaration of intent.
Last year, however, responsible alderman Bert Jongen announced that Kaleido would have to leave the (former) Muziekgieterij building. The two parties would get in each other’s way in terms of target groups and programming, which would result in a financial setback for one or both parties.

So, for the time being, Kaleido will continue to drift through the city; events take place at various locations. What the programme will look like in the coming months, we will have to wait and see. One thing is certain: the regular stand-up comedy night will stay, says Schäfer. The next Kaleido Laughs is 29 September in the Muziekgieterij.
