What exactly happened during the cyberhack last December? Next Wednesday, UM will once again disclose what happened in the TV programme De Kennis van Nu (The Knowledge of Now). The research institute for water technology Wetsus from Leeuwarden, which was hacked after Maastricht and got help from UM, will do the same. They both paid ransom: the UM almost two tons, Wetsus "a fraction of that", says director Johannes Boonstra to the Leeuwarder Courant.
The two call on companies and institutions that fall prey to hackers to make this public. If previous hacks had been better shared, UM could have armed itself better, according to Maastricht ICT director Jacques Beursgens. "Get it out of the damn corner. Join those other hundreds of companies it has happened to over the past few months. Help each other."
