MAASTRICHT. Student rowing association Saurus has again attracted the largest number of foreign student members: 26 (last year: 24). They are followed by Koko (9), Tragos (6) and Circumflex (3). In total, the associations registered almost the same number of first-year students as last year. Circumflex attracted 114 (2013: 112), Koko 139 (2013: 138) and Saurus 131 (2013: 135) newcomers. Only in the case of Tragos, the difference was greater: 132 this year against 103 last year. According to chairman Thomas de Hoop, they recruited more intensively during the Inkom than ever before.
The National Chamber of Associations (LKvV) said last week that the number of new registrations had risen nationally by 12 per cent. This appears to be incorrect. The LKvV had tallied the applicants and compared those to the actual number of new members last year. Many students apply for association membership, but in the end decide against becoming members. After a new comparison, LKvV arrived at a growth of 2 per cent.
