Maarten Simonis, communication officer at the Faculty of Law, and his family often spend an hour or so watching YouTube. Instead of crouching in front of a computer screen, they just watch it on TV, thanks to Chromecast. “With this app, you can stream YouTube videos to your television set. You don’t have to buy a smart TV; all you need is a HDMI socket and the USB device that goes with the app. This device is used to connect your mobile phone to the television set. The USB stick can be bought at the Google Play Store (the app store for Android), a clever move by the creators.”
The big favourite in Simonis’ home is music videos. “Everyone has a say. The children choose things that they like, we show them what we used to watch and listen to when we were young. The app allows you to make a playlist, so that everything is played one after the other. In that way you create your own television programme. All in all, we easily fill a happy hour.”
