Maastricht University’s Green Office wants to grow and become a European sustainability think tank. The city of Maastricht has granted 10,000 euros, as an incentive within the framework of its Sustainability Impulse.
The Maastricht Green Office wants to promote sister institutes at other European universities. In addition, the ‘green’ project office is expected to use the money also to make headway towards a sustainable UM in 2030, the jury report states.
Green Office Maastricht was founded by students in September 2010, and initiates and co-ordinates sustainability projects at this university.
The city council rewarded a total of seventeen ideas, both from within the UM and outside. The Maastricht branch of the international sustainability organisation Oikos will receive 679 euros subsidy to create an Eco-Map, a street map in English identifying sustainable shops, restaurants and other sustainable locations in the city.
