‘Walk five hundred paces today’ or ‘fill your plate for 50 per cent with vegetables and fruit.’ This is the kind of daily assignment that users of Noom Coach can expect. Unlike other dieting apps, Noom Coach doesn’t just keep track of how much you eat and exercise, but also coaches, giving tips and assignments, or reminding you that you still have to take a walk that day. This coaching is based on your dieting plan. When you register, you fill in how much weight you want to lose and whether your plan should be ‘easy’, ‘average’ or ‘intense’ – depending on the speed with which you want to lose weight.
You log everything you eat. Foods have designated colour codes: green, yellow or red, where green is the healthiest. Throughout the day, a pie chart shows you how your calorie intake is divided into colours. A pedometer registers how much you walk – which should be taken with a pinch of salt; picking up or replacing the telephone equals a step.
In addition to the free version, there is also a Noom Pro subscription. It costs €2.99 per month, €11.99 per year or €29.99 indefinitely. This provides you with recipes and comments on what you eat. There is also a forum where you can talk with other members and keep track of your waist size.
