Twelve lectures, twelve professors, twelve cities

Twelve lectures, twelve professors, twelve cities

UM Star Lectures

MAASTRICHT. Almost a week after Maastricht University’s Dies celebration on Friday, 16 January, a new tradition will be introduced: the UM Star Lectures.
For the first time, twelve professors will start their lectures simultaneously in twelve cities, for the Netherlands in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Breda, Den Bosch, Venlo, Den Haag and Maastricht, for Belgium in Brussels and for Germany in Düsseldorf, Berlin, Munich. There will even be a meeting in London: Rob Bauer, professor of Finance will talk about responsible investing.
“The lectures are an extra impulse, a new way to build and maintain a relationship with our alumni, to share knowledge,” says Jos Kievits, director of Development and Alumni Relations, and director of University Fund Limburg. “It’s an addition to our website, newsletters and 28 alumni circles who already regularly organize events, master classes and drinks for the alumni in their respective cities.”
Professor Anita Jansen will talk about the psychology of obesity (in Dutch) in Hotel New York in Rotterdam. Professor Rainer Goebel will be in Berlin, discussing new insights from human functional brain imaging. Professor Clemens van Blitterswijk’s lecture in Amsterdam is about kleien met cellen (clay modelling with cells). Munich welcomes professor Mariëlle Heijltjes. Do you have the courage to be a globally responsible leader, she asks her audience.
Maastricht University has more than fifty thousand alumni, of whom thirty thousand work in the Netherlands (almost ten thousand of them in the south of Limburg).
