MAASTRICHT. Students who want to set up an initiative or organisation often find themselves facing all sorts of issues: where to get funding, how to book an office space and so on. To answer these questions, the Student Project Team (SPT) will launch an online helpdesk as of next week.
Students have long been calling for a platform with information on organisations and initiatives, says Lorenza de Domenico, deputy team leader of the SPT. “A lot of the questions we get are on those kinds of topics.” The webpage is in English; a Dutch version will be made available later.
The platform will not only provide information about funding – both within and outside the university – and office spaces, but also help students figure out what kind of organisation they want to set up in legal terms. In addition, it will provide a list with contact information of existing organisations. “That way, people will know what’s already out there. Hopefully, it will lead to more collaboration.”
Students can get together online in Facebook groups or meet up in real life in one of the meeting rooms at Gebroeders Hermansstraat 2. This building, which was officially opened last week, is currently used by fourteen student organisations. The SPT plans to hang up a calendar where all organisations can add their events. “Mainly to prevent events from overlapping”, says De Domenico. “In time, we’ll embed it in the webpage as well, but we’re still looking for a way to do that within the university website system.”
For further questions or additional information, students can turn to the front desk of the Student Service Centre. A student from the SPT will be present there every Wednesday from 14.00 until 16.00.
