MAASTRICHT. The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) will change its name to International Student Network (ISN). “We want to make it clear that we are here for all international students, not just for exchange students. It is something that the university also wanted, ” says promo co-ordinator Nadim Gijsen. In February, it was announced that a building was being made available for international students; from 2017, they will be able to use the Timmerfabriek on the Boschstraat. “We will make the organisation more professional in the coming years,” says Gijsen. “We are recruiting so-called active members, who will help the board organise activities and, for example, run the bar in the new building.”
ESN will stay a member of the worldwide Erasmus Network. “There are other departments that have changed their name. In Amsterdam, the organisation is also called International Student Network.” Their tasks regarding the care of exchange students will not change. “Collecting them from the station, providing them with initial information, and answering questions: we will keep doing that. Organising parties and activities is of course good fun, but this is the basis,” says Gijsen.
The name change will become official on Thursday, 23 April, during the final party of the week in which ESN celebrates its 25th birthday. There will be various parties during that week, on Friday 17th, Monday 20th, and Tuesday 21st. There will be an international dinner on Wednesday, 22 April, with dishes from various parts of the world.
