Who: Elina Griniece

Master: European Studies on Society, Science and Technology (ESST), Maastricht
Bachelor: International Relations, International University, Tallinn, Estonia

"The choice for Maastricht was a coincidence. Having finished my bachelor's degree I had been working at the Ministry of Interior Affairs and after one and a half years I was desperate to study again. And I wanted it to be abroad. On the internet I found the description of Maastricht University's ESST programme very appealing. But my expectations did not match reality - in a positive way. The programme is more challenging and intense than I thought and I find it mind blowing, because I'm always being confronted with completely new views on the world and theories. After four or five months I had the feeling of having learned more than during my whole bachelor's programme in Estonia. PBL was not something I was accustomed to, but I love having group discussions and learning to build up ideas. In August I plan to have finished my thesis. After that I would like to stay in the Netherlands or Scandinavia and do smaller research for think tanks or governmental institutions. Or maybe go for PhD."
