The University Council was unable to select a new chairperson during its last meeting in December.
The two candidates provoked some polarisation, says the chair of the confidential committee that prepares the election, Dirk Tempelaar. The present council chair, who after four years in office would like a third term, is known for his harmony-directed style, but certain council members would prefer someone more confrontational. The chairperson is an important link in the relationship between the council and the university’s Executive Board. In the next council meeting at the end of January, Tempelaar will present some other candidates. The new chairperson is due to start in March.
