Russia is considering a remodelling of its universities and introducing a bachelor-master system.
The idea is to bring Russian education in line with the rest of the world.
They have been thinking about it for about three years, but it now looks as if it is going to happen. According to Hans van Koningsbrugge, an authority on Russia and lecturer at the University of Groningen, Russian education suffered in the nineties, when the country was hit by all kinds of crises. But it has recovered in the last few years. “I can tell by the level of Russian master’s students and PhD students who come here. They now write and speak impeccable English.”
