Jekerjazz is back on track. After years of successful corporation with Jazz Maastricht, both organisations have decided to return to their roots. This year, the popular jazz festival, located mainly in the inner city neighbourhood Jekerkwartier, will celebrate its 20th anniversary. From 14 until 17 October, about 120 blues, funk and other jazz-related performances will grace over sixty pubs, cafes and small restaurants in the area. Admission is free. See www.jekerjazz.com for the full programme.
Fond of comedians, musicians, performers and poets? Open Mic will give you the opportunity to experience it all on Wednesday 20 October, when amateur as well as professional acts will mount the ‘open stage’ in the Kumulustheater (Herbenusstraat 89). Curious to see Maastricht’s most talented performers, or interested in joining yourself? Please visit www.sg.unimaas.nl
As in the rest of the Netherlands, Maastricht wants to protect and promote its heritage. What would be a better opportunity to shine a spotlight on this than the Week of History? From 16 until 24 October several institutions will organise special events to help citizens get in touch with the city’s rich past. Discover hilly landscapes by bike, or visit a temporary collection in one of Maastricht’s many museums.
