Poetry, Shoes and Jazz

Did you know Maastricht is the poetry capital of Europe? At least, that’s the case in October 2010. From 28 until 30 October, the La Bonbonniѐre theatre is organising The Maastricht International Poetry Nights, where well-established poets from all over the world will share their work with the audience. All verses will be recited in the original language, but a Dutch translation will be projected onto a big screen. Curious about the participants or the programme? Please visit www.maastrichtpoetry.com.

Always thought you had a lot of shoes? Undeceive yourself and drop by the collection of the famous Dutch footwear designer Jan Janssen. In the last 45 years, over 2000 of his shoe designs have graced design museums all over the world. And until Friday 12 November, some of his masterpieces will be on show in the head office of Defauwes Orthopedische Schoentechniek in Heerlen.

On the weekend of 29 and 30 October, Maastricht will sway to the sound of a new jazz festival. Over the two days, Mecc Jazz Maastricht will offer over 50 national and international acts like Angie Stone, Joe Jackson and Trijntje Oosterhuis. All performances will take place in the MECC conference centre. You can buy day tickets and passe-partouts at www.meccjazzmaastricht.nl.
