Fleamarket in Liège

Are you keen to dance to disco music in a tiny café? On Friday 19 November the DJs Sidi El Karchi and Ramazan will get your body swinging in Café Zondag. From 22.00, Wijckerbrugstraat 42.

For students who like old-fashioned games like Trivial Pursuit and know just about everything about everything, you can join the trivia quiz – complete with pictures and music clips – every Tuesday evening at the John Mullins pub (Wijckerbrugstraat 50). The quiz starts at 20.00; entrance is €2.50.

Mike Leigh’s (Secrets and Lies, Naked) new film Another Year is about family, friendship and ageing; a compassionate work, balancing humour alongside more melancholic notes. The film offers a deeply absorbing look at a middle-aged couple who seem to have got it right, and a bunch of people who haven’t – and a son who could go either way. Lumière cinema, Bogaardenstraat. Student price (show your UM card): €6.50. See www.lumiere.nl for the exact times.

Bargains, lovely things to buy, the best French fries, a big city atmosphere and a lot of cheap rubbish. Every Friday morning there’s a flea market in Liège in the district Outre-Meuse, Boulevard de Constitution. Your best bet is to go by car: take the A2, head in the direction of the Liège city centre, cross the Meuse and after about 800 metres cross to the other side of the river on the left, just before a petrol station. From 7.00 until 13.00.
