Demonstrating in The Hague

Professors and students are worried about the cutbacks in tertiary education. Tomorrow (Friday), there will be a demonstration in The Hague. Anyone else coming along from Maastricht? On Wednesday morning, 285 students had registered – enough to fill six coaches – as well as 21 professors.

The professors' coach will depart at 06:15hrs on Friday morning. They are against the cuts in education and research and they will attend a special academic session. Students will also demonstrate in The Hague on Friday afternoon. The manifestation starts at 13:00hrs. In the free newspaper Spits state secretary Halbe Zijlstra said that he would address the students gathered on the Malieveld.

The coaches leave Maastricht station at 09:15hrs. On Wednesday morning 285 students had already signed up. There are also students who will make their own way to The Hague.

Constanze Müller, student at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, has come up with something that those who are staying here could do: on Friday, between 13:30 and 14:30hrs, students and staff should gather at the university library. “We will give everyone the opportunity to sign a petition, which will then be sent to The Hague.”
