The dean of the Faculty of Health Medicine & Life sciences, Martin Paul, will be the new president of Maastricht University. This was announced by the supervisory board this morning. Paul - Jo Ritzen's successor – will start work on the first of May.
The choice of the dean of HML is a bit of a surprise in the light of earlier remarks made by the president of the supervisory board, Ad Veenhof, that the search would be throughout the Netherlands and abroad. “Only by doing so, one can be sure to find the best candidate.”
Paul, who was asked for the position last week, is very honoured. “It was also a big surprise for me, I didn’t apply.”
