Mixed Inkom not abolished yet

The Inkom working group is still in favour of mixed introduction groups for the next Inkom, but they do not rule out that things are changing. This became clear during a meeting of a University Council committee.

The Inkom working group is still in favour of mixed introduction groups for the next Inkom, but they do not rule out that things are changing. This became clear during a meeting of a University Council committee.

The Maastricht Chamber of Associations (Tragos, Koko, Circumflex) had stirred things up by claiming that mixing foreign students and Dutch students in the Inkom groups does not work. The integration that everybody is hoping for is not served because the groups quickly disperse and the atmosphere generally suffers. The Inkom working group is not convinced. Vice chairman Brendan Moloney: “If you claim to be an international university, then it is very odd that you create groups based on nationalities right at the beginning of the year. What then ? Separate groups for the Dutch, the Germans, the Spanish?”

Nevertheless, a change of policy is not completely out of the question, said working group chairperson Anne van Tetering, but only if a survey among all student groups proves that the majority indeed no longer wants mixed groups. The results of this survey will be announced in a few weeks' time.
