Museum Weekend, Haïti and Marike Jager

In Haiti, hundreds of people are still homeless after the earthquake in January 2010. They have not been forgotten by the group of Maastricht students who together form the band Sono. They will therefore give a benefit concert for Haiti on Friday 8 April in café D’n Hiemel at 20.00. Jazz, gospel and pop music will be on the programme, and there will be no entrance fee. During the breaks an auction of Haitian art will be held. All profits will go to projects in Haiti. For more information, please visit

On Sunday 3 April, UM alum Marike Jager will play in the Muziekgieterij. Jager has won some major Dutch music awards and is described as an authentic singer/songwriter with beautiful songs. She will play tracks from her latest album called Here comes the night. The show will start at 20.00; tickets cost €8 for students. For more information, please check

No entrance fee, and special lectures and activities in the museum: this is the 30th Museum Weekend on 2 and 3 April. You might go to the Natuurhistorisch Museum Maastricht, for instance, which will be giving away pieces of their collection. Every visitor will be able to choose something from the give-away box, while the curators will explain the significance of the pieces. For the full programme in Maastricht, please visit
