Cinema Arabe festival
Work by young Arab filmmakers, from countries such as Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco, will be shown at the Cinema Arabe festival from Thursday 2 until Sunday 5 June at the Lumière cinema. The festival aims to provide alternative representations of life in Arab countries that contradict the stereotypical images. The films shown – which will all be subtitled in English – are rarely seen outside their country of origin and give a unique insight into little-known film cultures. Nacht van de Fooi
Saturday 28 May will see the first ever Maastricht Nacht van de Fooi (Night of the Tip). Bars and pubs all over Maastricht will give away their tip money for the evening to a good cause. To support this, a pub tour is being organised, starting from the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein at 20.00. Tickets costs €15, which includes five drinks in five different bars and €5 that goes directly to charity. The pub tour will end with an after-party at Nexxt. You can buy a ticket by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May, almost all art studios, art institutes, museums and galleries in Maastricht will open for the annual KunstTour (Art Tour). Over 200 artists will show their work in 50 art venues all over town. New this year is De Eiffel (Boschstraat 24), where numerous performances, a debate and the Hermine van Bers Art Award ceremony will take place. For more information, please check www.kunsttour.com
