The Maastricht economists have risen five places in the top 100 of the Tilburg University Economics Ranking. They went from 67th to 62nd place. Of the five Dutch universities on the international list, Maastricht and Amsterdam (VU) were the only ones to climb. The ranking is based on publications in leading journals in the past five years (2006-2010). The Tilburg list is on the same level as the Dallas ranking, which assesses business schools.
The top ten is filled entirely with American universities, such as Harvard, Chicago, New York, Berkeley, Columbia, Stanford, et cetera. The highest-ranking Dutch university is Tilburg, in 24th place, followed by the University of Amsterdam in 31st place.
The Tilburg School of Economics and Management set up the ranking - which is based on the 36 most influential journals - in 2009, partly because other economic rankings were discontinued.
