Green light for parking regulation

From 1 December, foreign students commuting to Maastricht every day may (again) use a permit to park in the neighbourhoods around the city centre. This was decided by the Maastricht city council last Tuesday.

The trial project – in which 97 students participated – finished at the end of July 2011. The mayor and alderman of the city decided at that time to replace the trial with a permanent regulation. Implementation took a few months. In the meantime, no permits were issued.

The parking permits, which cost 5 euros per month (residents pay 3.50), applies in the Brusselsepoort, Mariaberg, Villapark and Noorderbrug districts. About a hundred students have already applied for a permit. They can expect their cards at the beginning of December, said Jo Haesen, responsible within the UM for the student parking project. Anyone who is interested (there are 325 places available), please report to studentparking@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
