Collaboration with Hogeschool Zuyd, with the RWTH Aachen University or with other institutes in the Euroregion? The UM’s Language Centre is currently drawing up a strategic plan for the future. Everything is possible, rector Gerard Mols said last week during a meeting with the university council's I&S committee, who put the future of the Language Centre on the agenda. He emphasised that the Executive Board would like to keep the Language Centre going - “an international university needs such a centre” - but at the same time he pointed out that no one could escape the budget cuts. “We have to look at the costs. Faculties are looking for cheaper solutions, they are shopping around.”
The strategic plan should be there by the beginning of next year, and then a decision will be taken, said Mols.
