MAASTRICHT. The first ninety study places at the Student Services Centre (SSC) will be opened next Monday. A total of 170 study places will be created in the building on the Bonnefantenstraat, to be completed before the summer.
The study places – on the second floor of the former Bonnefanten monastery – are divided up into areas of various sizes, where students can work alone or in groups. “They are set up as Bring-Your-Own-Device places,” says Ingrid Wijk, director of the University Library. “There are no computers or books, but there is a good Wi-Fi connection and a printer/copier.”
Renovations are now entering the second phase, focusing on the study places on the third floor. “This requires an internal move and we are of course dependent on contractors and permits, but we hope everything will be completed by the end of block four (March/April, ed.). Then there will be a total of between 160 and 180 study places, depending on exactly how we can arrange the tables and chairs.”
To conclude, there will be fifty lounge places in the hall near Coffee Lovers. For this purpose the large wooden staircase will soon be removed – most likely in February.
