Anita Jansen appointed dean of psychology
MAASTRICHT. Female deans will be in the majority at Maastricht University as of 1 June 2016, when Professor Anita Jansen starts her term as the new dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience. She succeeds Bernadette Jansma, who will take the reins at the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences. This brings the total number of female deans at UM to four out of six.
Jansen has been professor of Experimental Clinical Psychology at UM since 1999. Together with her ‘eating group’, she investigates the mechanisms underlying eating disorders and obesity: how do they work, why are they so persistent, and how can they be tackled? In 2011 she received a Vici grant worth €1.5 million from the funding agency NWO for her research on the psychological predictors of successful weight loss. She has been a member of the NWO Social Sciences Board since 2014.
At UM, Jansen is no stranger to administrative roles, having previously served as department chair and vice dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience.
Observant will publish an interview with Anita Jansen next week.
