European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA)

Admissions to the 2019/2020 edition of the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation are open! This one-year Master Programme is aimed at educating up to 100 professionals annually in the field of human rights and democratisation. The Master’s Degree is also an action- and policy-oriented approach to learning that combines legal, political, historical, anthropological, and philosophical perspectives with skills building activities.
The first semester (from September 2019 to January 2020) will take place in Venice, Italy. Here, students perform an in-depth study of the following themes: Human Rights Institutions, Mechanisms and Standards; Human Rights in Context: Historical, Philosophical, Religious and Anthropological Perspectives; Democratisation; Human Rights and Globalisation; Human Rights and Security.
The second semester (from February to July 2020) takes place in one of the 41 participating universities within the member states of the European Union.
After graduation E.MAlumni can be found worldwide in key international human rights organisations and academic institutions, but also in field missions or back home working for their own Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Development Aid agencies or national NGOs.
The Maastricht University is the coordinating university for the Netherlands and takes care of the national selection. The deadline for application is 25 March 2019.
More information about the E.MA, the professors and the programme can be found here. You can also send an email to the E.MA student assistant at sara.mattsson@maastrichtuniversity.nl
