Jazz and Circus

Behind the Status

30-10-2013

This month we will gather under the theme of Jazz and Circus! We have the pleasure to have Krokokos – a Jazz septet – play one set on their own, and then play a second set accompanied by different jugglers and circus addicts from Maastricht, professionals and amateurs. So, if you like to juggle, play diabolo, or anything similar, don't be shy and join the Circus troupe for one night!

The Facebook event Jazz & Juggle promoted the twelfth 2in1, a monthly cultural event taking place at different venues in Maastricht. “It's a great possibility to explore all the special places hidden in this city”, explains Rachel Solomon (22), one of the event organisers. “For each event 2in1 combines at least two different art forms, sometimes even more.” The project is a collaboration between students and Jazz Maastricht, Code 043, the Mandril Cultural Centre, Intro in situ and various alternating partners.

“We found it such a pity that art and music students invest so much work in cool projects that never get to leave their schools, and are only used or performed for internal assessment”, Solomon says. The organisers of 2in1 therefore decided to provide a platform for the students of the Conservatorium, the Theatre Academy and the Visual Arts Academy in Maastricht, as well as anyone else who wants to share their art.

The events usually take place on the 21st of each month. “If you have a crazy idea for how to merge different art forms, get in touch with us!” Solomon says. “Everybody is welcome, whether you’re a professional or an amateur.” 2in1 can be found on Facebook; send them a message if you feel inspired.
