During the last few days of The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF), the Jazz Maastricht Foundation will organise the sixth two-day Jazz Masters festival. Taking place at the Theater aan het Vrijthof, the event will host some important names in the jazz scene. On Friday, Canadian singer/songwriter Gino Vannelli will perform, together with some of the best Dutch jazz musicians. Vanelli, who has released 16 albums since the 1970s, is the man behind pop hits like Wild horses and Hurts to be in love. During the festival he will present his jazz repertoire.

Dutch 'Brasilelectro' band Zuco 103 will also play on Friday evening. On Saturday, two jazz soloists will give a concert: pianist Brad Mehldau and guitarist Philip Catherine, reckoned to be today's most interesting jazz musicians and composers. Young, talented artists will fill the other stages on these two days.

If you're interested in hearing the music but the Jazz Masters entrance fee is beyond your budget, there are other opportunities to see performances in Maastricht. Theatre shows take place monthly and jazz performances are offered weekly in quite a number of cafés, including every Monday at Grand-Café De Tramhalte and every Tuesday at Edd's cafe.
