UM employee award

Lou Quaden and Ien van de Leur have won the 2009 Maastricht University Employee Award. Quaden is the caretaker of the Minderbroedersberg building, and Van de Leur works as head of the Education Office at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

During the New Year reception at the economics faculty last Tuesday, they each received a work by sculptor Desmaret, a book on this artist's work and a dinner voucher to the amount of 500 euros.

Ien van de Leur was praised for her “tremendous efforts for education and staff during the introduction of the new administrative systems.” The latter refers to MUSL, the system that caused so many problems at the beginning of the current academic year. Lou Quaden, who has worked at the UM since 1998, was referred to by the jury as “an excellent caretaker” who is “always prepared to go the extra mile”.

This was the third time that the Employee Award was presented. Any employee may nominate a colleague. A jury, chaired by Vice-Chairman of the Executive Board, André Postema, then selects two winners.

Previous winners were Ine Kuppen, Arnoud Arntz, Ton de Goeij, and Tiny Simon.
