MAASTRICHT. Three proposals for temporary (student) accommodation in Maastricht await a permit. It concerns the reallocation of vacant office buildings on the Franciscus Romanusweg 2 (31 rooms) and the Gebroeders Hermansstraat 2 (34 rooms). In the former care home Molenhof on the Sint Pieterstraat 23 and 25, studios will be realised: thirty for students and thirty for urgent home seekers (starters on the housing market, divorcees, or expats). This is what the city council wrote this week in a council information letter.
Maastricht needs more affordable accommodation, especially for students. Reason enough for the city council to appeal to housing corporations and other commercial parties last December to come up with proposals for large- and small-scale campus-type locations. With the important condition that they should be available from 1 September 2019.
The city offers no financial contribution to the reallocation, but has said it will “make an effort to ensure that the necessary procedures for the (temporary) permits are processed as smoothly as possible”.
