Inkom Monday: serenades, sumo wrestling and birth control

19-08-2019

It is about two o’clock on Inkom Monday. The registration has begun at ten, but there still is a cue from the registration desk at the School of Business and Economics up until far into the Bonnefantenstraat. It is hot in the sun; luckily Lipton offers cooling. Free bottles of iced tea are handed out from a cart next to the waiting line. A couple of meters further Tuna de Maastricht is serenading the waiting first year students.

At the same moment, multiple associations and clubs that are active in the Maastricht student life are presenting themselves at the Tapijnkazerne, where there’s the so-called ‘Welcome to Maastricht’ information market. A grasp from the different information stands: the youth branch of political party Groenlinks, LGBT club UM Pride, Swapfiets and of course big student associations such as Saurus and Tragos. Furthermore, there is an arena for sumo wrestlers and a lady with a birth control camper who once more has ‘the talk’ with the brand new UM-students.

The official Inkom opening will take place tonight between seven and eleven at the Markt.
