“I really can’t cook”

First-year student

Eindhoven, Nijmegen, Maastricht. You can study Biomedical Sciences in all three cities, but there is a restricted entry in Nijmegen and the study programme in Eindhoven is fairly technical. So, Robin Beurskens (19) registered in Maastricht at the last minute.

“Wonderful city too. And not too far from Venlo, where I live. About fifty minutes by train. It’s doable to travel up and down. I will stay at home for the first year at any rate. Because of COVID-19, we only have to be at the faculty two days a week, the rest of the programme will be online. It would be a waste of money to spend a few hundred euros a month on rent.”

On the other hand, everyone in his Inkom group, with whom he regularly meets in the park, is in digs. “They love living by themselves. To be honest, I think it would be great too, so I do see myself looking for something in second year.”

The only thing is, “I really can’t cook. Rice with vegetables and meat I can manage, but it shouldn’t get any more complicated than that.”
