COVID-19: UM foundation day celebrations postponed until May

The new rector Pamela Habibović will take over her new job from 1 February, as planned

MAASTRICHT. Maastricht University’s foundation day celebrations, in honour of its 46th anniversary, planned for Friday 28 January 2022 in the Sint Janskerk, will be postponed until Thursday 12 May. This has everything to do with COVID-19.

The UM does not want to make it an online event, said president and rector Rianne Letschert to a University Council committee last week. But, she added, it would be irresponsible to come together with a large group in the church at the moment.

Because of this, the official transfer of the rector’s chain of office will be postponed until May. The new rector Pamela Habibović will take over her new job from 1 February, as planned. At that time, Letschert’s dual function will expire.
