UM team eighth in Batavierenrace

Groningen team wins University Competition

The Maastricht University team finished eighth in the Batavierenrace 2022. The well-known relay race from Nijmegen to Enschede was held for the 50th time last weekend. About 8,500 students stood at the start of the 175 kilometers, divided over 25 stages. It took the Maastricht team a total of 11 hours 12 minutes and 24 seconds.

There are two competitions: the universities and universities of applied sciences are represented with a team in the University Competition. The team from the University of Groningen and Hanze University of Applied Sciences won here. A team from the Enschede student athletics association Kronos took first place in the general classification, in which all other teams participate. Maastricht runners could also be found here, such as with the teams of study associations Pulse and Santé, but they did not manage to make it to the top.

The race was not entirely flawless. At the eighth stage, a sign had been placed in the wrong place, causing a large number of runners to go wrong. It was then decided not to count this stage for the final result.
