UM wants to set up ‘help lines’ for students and staff

MAASTRICHT. Maastricht University buildings will open on Thursday 2 January, no matter what, so even if the consequences of the cyber-attack have not yet been solved by then. Furthermore, ‘help lines’ (on faculty, central and service centre level) will be set up for students and staff who have questions.

Those questions may refer to such issues as timetables (“we cannot access anything, so not even the timetables,” said spokesman Fons Elbersen), exams, theses, papers, applications or subsidy applications. “The questions concern a variety of urgent matters that are a worry for students and staff members,” Elbersen clarifies. “We want to limit the consequences for staff and students as much as possible. We aim to provide tailor-made solutions, although I don’t know if we will be able to answer all questions immediately.” A lot depends on the approximately 25 IT experts, who are working seven days a week to repair everything.
With messages on the university website’s homepage both yesterday and today, the supply of information from the UM now appears to have gotten underway.
