At about four o’clock, the large hall on the ground floor slowly starts to fill up with the former and present club boards. The official opening is a formality, says Circumflex chairman Simon Hoek. The ‘real’ activities take place in the evenings. The programme for this week: On your slippers Monday (private party), Aladdin’s Day (pub quiz), on Wednesday it is Peter Pan stew (dinner), Lady and the Vagabond evening on Thursday, and on Friday there is Mickey’s house party. At the fairy tale bar this week, you can order drinks such as Snow Whites (Apfelkorn) and a Jungle book (Boswandeling).
Hoek is glad that an ordinary week of parties can take place again. That was impossible the last two years due to COVID-19. Hoek: “Also because of ‘maintaining tradition’. My batch was the last to experience what was ‘normal’, so it is a good thing that this is possible again.”
Anyone who is 51 this year, was of course 50 last year. Lustrums are always lavishly celebrated by the student associations. Tragos, for example, is celebrating its fortieth anniversary with large parties and events this week. Circumflex turned fifty last year, but will celebrate its tenth lustrum only at the beginning of August. “Now that it is possible again, we will go all out,” says Hoek.
