Next year there will be a total of 1,728 scholarships worth 320 euros each. That money compensates board members for the study delay they incur as a result of their position. Of those months, 72 will go to university council members and the INKOM Working Group. The faculties will receive 639 and the rest will be distributed among university student organizations and sports associations or go to the reserve. Since the 2018/2019 academic year, the Committee Board Months Distribution has been deciding how the money for these last two categories will be distributed. It consists of representatives from seven clubs chosen at random who are eligible for the money.
Special circumstances
There are guidelines for the distribution. How much did an association receive last year and has the composition of the board or the workload changed? Does an association have its own building? Are there special circumstances? In an anniversary year, for example, an association can ask more money for an extra board member.
For example, Saurus will get 106 months next year instead of the 99 they got last year. “The reason for this is that the warranty for our boathouse has expired,” says Saurus chairman Amber van Els when asked. “From next year, a number of part-time positions will be added for maintenance.”
Koko received 87 months last year, but will need an extra board member next year because they have to leave their association building and look for a new one. They will get 99 in 2022/2023.
New on the list are E-sports association Peritan – they are given six months – and MSA Nour, UM's Islamic student association. They get ten.
Warning
The Maastricht Student Council (MSR) receives zero grants for the second year in a row. “Last year, eight board months were reserved for them, but they eventually gave them back because they couldn't get a full board together,” says student dean Judith Kraal. That seems to be the case again this year. "We haven't heard from them."
Student chaplaincy The Innbetween submitted an incomplete request and did not show up for the interview with the committee. That conversation is part of the procedure. Result: zero months. SSC director Margriet Schreuders thought this was unjustified. “In this way, the coming board is punished for the mistake of the current one, which has had board months. There has been intensive contact with The Innbetween. I have used my discretionary power to award grants anyway.” Student counselor Kraal: “The Innbetween will receive the grants, because they are a valuable partner for the SSC. Particularly in the field of student welfare. For example, they have done a lot for lonely students during the corona crisis.” They do get a warning. Next year should be better. So twelve board months, just like last year. They come from the reserve, emphasizes Schreuders. “So I didn't have to tinker with the committee's advice and take anything away from other associations.”
