The annual report is prepared annually for the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, explains Vice President of the Executive Board Nick Bos after a question from student council member Moritz Takacs. That document will undoubtedly meet all the requirements of the ministry, but it was nevertheless criticized by the council.
“I'd like to say this respectfully, but this seems like a marketing pitch,” Takacs says. “It contains many success stories, but the 'key challenges' of UM are not really mentioned.” Fellow student council member Lotte Meerhoff also misses a critical note. She would have liked to at least read the accountant's statement. That is normally added as an appendix, but is missing from this report, because it only came in this week. “That was a positive statement,” says Bos. President Rianne Letschert adds that the accountant mainly looks at the financial processes, not at the narrative of the report.”
Letschert thinks it is a “good point” from the students. How she will change that in concrete terms remains unclear.
Mark Govers, councilor on behalf of the academic staff, is also not satisfied; there is far too little attention for work pressure. He has been making a big point about this theme for years. "When I read this, it seems as if there is no high work pressure at all here. If this document is for the ministry, it should definitely be there. I think it is important that the minister knows that this is the case.”
