Welcome to Maastricht market INKOM

MAASTRICHT. Where last year everyone was led via a strict route over the 'Welcome to Maastricht' Market due to corona, this Monday afternoon everyone is swarming together as usual. Like in a real market.

Here the new students get a first impression of the study and student associations, sports clubs, shops and local political parties Maastricht has to offer. All stalls are nicely decorated, but some are busier than others. There is especially a lot of enthusiasm at the tents that hand out food. For example, there is a long queue at the HEMA stand to score a free tompouce.

Another big difference from last year is the weather. The visitors and exhibitors almost drowned in the torrential rain in 2021. This Monday afternoon it is 'short pants weather': a lovely sun and about 26 degrees.

One more contrast with the last edition: the brand new freshmen are allowed to eat, drink and dance close together again. You can do that at one of the many long picnic tables or the huge inflatable cushion on the site. At least there are no corona stewards and "keep your distance please" this year.
