After years, Mylena van Haaren is back in her native country to study biomedical sciences at Maastricht University. She grew up in Bulgaria, where her father is a diplomat. Remarkable: she will follow the study in English. Her Dutch is limited, she says. “We speak English at home,” she says on Wednesday afternoon as she waits for the doors of the Faculty of Law to open for the lectures of the 'Set your own limit' event of the INKOM.

So far, she is particularly pleased with Tuesday evening's MECC party. “The DJs were very good.” That is in contrast to the one of the opening party. “I didn't like the transitions between the songs and sometimes the DJ left out the best parts. Then came a boy band that translated English songs into Dutch.” Not for everyone, she says.

Still, she's glad she was there. “Those parties are a nice way to meet people and make friends.” The latter also works well through a student association, but she doesn't know yet whether she wants to join. “I have roommates who are with KoKo. I have yet to discover the other associations.”

She found her room "pretty last minute" via Kamernet. Luck, she admits. She got one that was actually already forgiven to someone else. “But that person had just said she didn't want the place when I responded. It's a matter of being in the right place at the right time.”

The crowd in front of the law building moves. “I have to go,” says Van Haaren. Of course, a quick photo and then she ‘is allowed’ to go. "No I rather not. I'm having a bad hair day.”
